As noted above, Mr. Holmes is a multidisciplined and deeply experienced attorney. He has amassed and continuously updates an enormous base of subject matter knowledge, legal expertise, and ADR skills. He has enjoyed remarkable career success as Patent & Intellectual Property Counsel, Corporate, Employment, & International Law Counsel, and Venture & Emerging Business Counsel. He is also an accomplished Business Strategist, Consultant, and P&L line management executive.
His vast base of experience, reputation for fairness, and rock solid personal integrity coupled with the courage to make the tough judgment calls, his balanced judicial temperament and an approachable judicial demeanor have created great demand for his services as an Arbitrator, Mediator, Conciliator, and Private Judge.
ADR Experience
Since 1988, Mr. Holmes has served the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) profession as chair, sole and panel Arbitrator, Mediator, Referee, Private Judge or Judge pro tem in hundreds of complex disputes. Amounts in dispute over which he has presided have ranged from small dollar matters to amounts in controversy well in excess of $200 million. Mr. Holmes has handled disputes from a variety of fields, such as Intellectual Property and Technology, Labor and Employment, Real Property and Construction, Financial, Entertainment, Sports, and Franchise, as well as International disputes. Subject matters have ranged widely, including software fraud, entertainment industry disputes, termination of distributorship, breach of a sports contract, patent infringement, race discrimination, sexual harassment, partnership dissolution, stock, securities and investor fraud, construction defect, breach of entertainment distribution contract, breach of surety and trustee obligation, identity theft, defamation, and imaging rights theft, software defect fraud and breach of international distribution rights. He is a frequent "Markman" hearing officer and discovery Referee. Attorney Experience
Mr. Holmes has advised, negotiated, litigated, arbitrated, and lectured in his specialty areas throughout the United States and around the world. He has held General Manager and Corporate Counsel positions at both Rockwell International and McDonnell Douglas Corporation. He served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Horne Entertainment Inc. and Western Regional Counsel for Wang Laboratories Inc. His private practice expertise includes a partnership (Of Counsel) at the national law firm of Baker & Hostetler and a general partnership at The Holmes Law Firm.
Mr. Holmes is a native of Jacksonville, Florida, and has practiced throughout the United States while maintaining offices in Pasadena, California, Atlanta, Georgia, and Chicago, Illinois. He is active in a number of civic, social, and professional organizations.
